New Stadium set to open in 2010

Posted Jun 29, 2009

The New York Jets and New York Giants announced today that fans can begin to take a seat from the historic Giants Stadium, set to close after the 2009 season.

Authentic seat pairs from the Stadium, which have supported spectators during Sunday and Monday Night Football, countless Bruce Springsteen concerts and even a Papal visit, are now available for purchase exclusively online at each team’s website.

With the final season of Giants Stadium approaching, fans can obtain both original and recently installed seats, to keep in their own homes and offices.

Original seats, which date back to the Stadium’s initial construction, are available in red and blue, for purchase in pairs only. More recently installed seats are also available for purchase, in red or blue and in pairs only. All seats are priced at $499 per pair and subject to availability. Seat orders will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis until they are sold out.

“As any Giants or Jets fan can attest, if seats could talk, they would speak of fierce rivalries and diehard loyalties, fourth quarter comebacks, secular Hail Mary’s, and very likely recite a verse or two from “Born in the U.S.A.”, said Mark Lamping, CEO of the New Meadowland Stadium Company. “We are thrilled to give fans the opportunity to bring a special piece of history into their homes.”

Giants Stadium officially opened in 1976 and the New York Giants played their first home opener in the stadium on September 25, 1977. The New York Jets became co-tenants in 1984, playing their first home game on September 6, 1984.

Giants Stadium has hosted more NFL games than any other venue in league history. On September 14, 2003, when the Jets met the Miami Dolphins, Giants Stadium hosted its 366th regular season game, breaking a previous record set by Wrigley Field, which served as home of the Chicago Bears for 50 seasons.

An assortment of prestigious events have been held at Giants Stadium, including a trio of Army/Navy Football matchups, Men’s and Women’s World Cup Soccer tournaments, rock concerts, and a holy visit from Pope John Paul II, which drew a crowd of 82,948, the largest ever at the Stadium.

Seats can be purchased from now until the end of the 2009 regular season by visiting either newyorkjets.com or NYGiants.com. Seats will be shipped 6-8 weeks following the end of the 2009 Season.
