Ryan, an advocate of the 3-4 defense, seems like a much better fit for the Jets than Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who plays the 4-3. Spagnuolo will interview with the Jets on Saturday. Ryan's date hasn't been announced yet.
Ryan has roots in the Jets organization. His father James David "Buddy" Ryan was an assistant on the Jets' Super Bowl championship team.
On Friday, the Jets will interview two in-house candidates, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and offensive line coach Bill Callahan. The latter was the last successful Oakland Raiders head coach, taking them to the Super Bowl in 2003.
