Jets cut Montgomery to make room for Smith

The New York Jets announced that S Eric Smith has been activated from the Reserve/Suspended list and OL Will Montgomery has been waived.

The announcements were made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Smith (6-1, 209/Michigan State/Groveport, OH) in his third NFL season, has played in four games (starting three) this season and recorded 16 total tackles (11 solo), one interception for six yards, two passes defensed and three special teams tackles.

Montgomery (6-2, 312, Virginia Tech, Clifton, VA) originally signed Sept. 19, 2007 as a free agent and appeared in seven games for the Jets in 2007. He was active for the first three games of 2008 but did not play before he was waived Sept. 25, 2008. He re-signed with the Jets, Sept, 29. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round (234th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft.
