Defense -
MLB Kenwin Cummings has turned into a quite a find for the Jets. The Wingate-product led the team in tackles (six)
and seems to have a real nose for the ball. He made so many plays in the preseason, you have to wonder if he is
practice squad safe, especially with Miami lurking around.
OLB Marques Murrell didn't have any sacks, but he had some pressures and displayed a non-stop motor. If the Jets
cut this guy, they are probably making a mistake. He gives them a backup OLB who can really get after the quarterback, and is actually
playing better than Vernon Gholston right now.
CB Hank Poteat is a guy who is always written off, but he just keeps making plays. He had a key late fourth quarter
pick and a PD. He might have locked up a roster spot.
S Abram Elam also had a pick and PD. He probably locked up the third safety spot.
Offense -
QB Erik Ainge has put the Jets in a tough spot. He was finally given a chance to play, and finished 10 of 16 for
131 yards with one TD pass and a 109.1 QB rating. What do the Jets do? Do they keep four quarterbacks? Probably
not. Stay tuned.
WR David Ball, who can clearly play in the league, had two catches, including a six-yard TD pass from Ainge in the
back of the end zone.
QB Brett Ratliff has clearly locked up a roster spot, and now is a legitimate contender for the #2 job. He had the
play of the game. He got out of a sure sack, stepped up, and hit Paul Raymond for a TD.
G Stanley Daniels had the key block Jesse Chatman's game-winning touchdown run. He also had a terrific block in the open field on a screen to Chatman. He is more athletic than the Jets other reserve guards Rob Tucker and Will Montgomery, but will have a hard time beating either one of them out.
