Was King's criticism fair?

SI's Peter King blasted Jets fans for what he perceived as poor support for Brett Favre's home preseason debut on Saturday. But perhaps the numbers really weren't that bad.

If you look at the attendence for the Jets first preseason home game last year, and compare it to Saturday's crowd, the team actually had an impressive increase.

For the Jets-Atlanta preseason game last summer, the crowd was 26,490.

On Saturday, in the Jets' 2008 home preseason debut, they drew 49,522. That is an 87% increase.

So the the crowd was almost double from last summer's first home game, and clearly Favre had a lot to do with that.

So perhaps King's criticism was a little harsh.
