Jets sign mercurial Ahmad Carroll

The Jets signed free agent cornerback Ahmad Carroll on Tuesday. He is a former first round pick (2004) of the Green Bay Packers.

After struggling in Green Bay, he was cut and then had a brief stint with Jacksonville. He was cut by the Jaguars in May of 2007 after being arrested for possession of ecstasy.

He was a standout at the University of Arkansas.

To make room for Carroll, the Jets released rookie safety Nate Lyles.
