I'm not buying this QB competition stuff

There are few things football scribes like writing about more than quarterback controversies.

Gary Myers and Steve Serby are going to be in their glory this summer at Jets camp.

Eric Mangini and Mike Tannenbaum have told us repeatedly that Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens will battle each other for the starting quarterback job during training camp.

Honestly, I'm not totally buying what Mangini and Tannenbaum are selling.

I find it hard to believe, that barring something radical occurring, that they don't have their minds made up already.

C'mon, your telling me that Mangini, Tannenbaum, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, and new assistant head coach Bill Callahan (a tremendous offensive mind), don't know who, as Mangini always says, "gives them the best chance to win?"

I can't believe that. They should know enough about each of these players to have already made a decision.

What is the purpose of this charade?

As Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner put it - "How can you tell who can give you the best chance to win on Sunday, when you aren't doing it on Sunday?"

In other words, how can you tell who is the better quarterback during two-a-days and preseason games? You probably can't, so that is why I think they are already made up their minds.

And just aren't telling us.
