5 Questions with Donnie Abraham
Donnie Abraham

The Jet cornerback spoke about being back in the race.

Q: Why all of the sudden is the team doing well?

Abraham: I think we are playing like we are supposed to play now.  I think guys are shutting up, and putting up, basically.  When we were playing bad, there was a lot of finger pointing, everybody was worrying about this, about the cause, about these things, but now you don’t hear any of that.  Now guys are putting up.  I think that has been our biggest turn around.  Defensively, things haven’t been simplified; we are doing the same things that we were doing before.  We are just now doing what we are supposed to when we are playing.

Q: Is there one moment or turning point that sticks out that got it all turned around?

Abraham: I don’t think there is one moment; I think guys are just finally making plays.  Before, we weren’t making plays, during crunch time when it was needed.  Now, we are getting more confident with each other making plays.  That is on game day.  Practices, we have been trying, and we always work hard in practice, we always know what we are supposed to do in practice, but I think now we are more comfortable with each other making plays in game time situations.  We are definitely learning how we play and each other’s tendencies in a game time situation.

Q: Can you explain the slow start and now the quick turn of events?

Abraham: No, you can’t really explain it.  That is the NFL.  You never know what team is going to be that team to go to the Super Bowl.  You are never as far out as you think you are.  When you are playing well, you are that one game away from being with the losers. I guess that is what makes it great.  You never know what is going to happen.  Through all of the adversity we went through earlier in the season, we just have to take it one game at a time and keep fighting.  I think that is a credit to our coaches, keeping the players in check, thinking up the game plan, just doing what you do.

Q: Do you feed off of the fact that you guys were pretty much written off in the beginning?

Abraham: The adversity hit us pretty quick.  You don’t like to start in a hole like we did, but we did.  We faced adversity, we still have a long way to go, and right now we are just taking it one game at a time, and we are really getting close with each other.  When adversity hits, the character really comes out in a team.  I think so far, we have handled it pretty good, and, like I said, we still have a long way to go and we are taking it one game at a time.

Q: Has Chad’s energy rubbed off on the defense as well?

Abraham: I think it goes hand-in-hand, the offense and the defense.  That was a big drive for us.  They want down, they scored, and they did their job, and we knew we had to come out and do our job.  I think we feed off of that because we don’t want to let the offense down.  We don’t want to let the guys we play for down, we don’t want to let each other down.  They feed off of us, and we feed off of them.  We went out and got a couple of key stops, and when they went out and got the ball and scored, it was our turn not to let the offense down.  And that is how we went out and did the job.
