Jets sign Coleman

Posted Jul 23, 2006

The New York Jets announced today they have signed their sixth-round selection in the 2006 NFL Draft, cornerback Drew Coleman.

Coleman, a 5-9, 175-pound product of Texas Christian University, was selected with the 189th overall selection in 2006. Coleman played his final two collegiate seasons at TCU, culminating with a victory over Iowa State in the 2005 Houston Bowl. He recorded 49 tackles and five interceptions in his TCU career after switching over from the offensive side of the ball at Trinity Valley Community College.

Coleman was selected with one of the more active NFL draft picks. The pick was originally traded to the Washington Redskins to obtain quarterback Patrick Ramsey. The Jets re-acquired the selection along with a second-round pick (53rd overall) and a 2007 second-round draft choice in exchange for the Jets’ second-round selection (35th overall). The pick was then sent to the Dallas Cowboys to move up and select quarterback Kellen Clemens. The Jets finally completed the movement receiving the pick along with a fifth rounder (150th overall) for their fifth-round selection (138th overall).
