Jets workout punter Zoltan Mesko
Ryan Quigley gave up his jersey number to Michael Vick this week on the condition that Vick donated the $10,000 it would cost him to charity. The New York Jets punter, however, likely isn't looking to be so charitable with his job. According to ESPN's Adam Caplan, Gang Green brought in former New England Patriots punter Zoltan Mesko last week for a workout, hinting that Quigley will likely be faced with some kind of respectable competition during the team's upcoming camps. Mesko spent his first three seasons in the NFL as a better-than-average boot for the Patriots. However, New England released him last offseason in favor of the much-cheaper undrafted rookie Ryan Allen, and Mesko ended up playing some with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year. He then signed with the Cincinnati Bengals late but ended up without a team this offseason. Mesko recently visited the Washington Redskins. Quigley, meanwhile, had a so-so 2013 himself and will likely have to battle for his job this summer, whether it's a veteran like Mesko or a rookie. The Jets are stocked with picks in the upcoming draft, with four in the sixth round or later.
