Multiple media reports indicate that free agent running back Chris Johnson nearing a deal with the New York Jets. The former Tennessee Titans star visited the Jets' training facility in Florham Park, New Jersey on Tuesday and was spotted by television cameras courtside at last night's Knicks vs. Nets game at Barclays Center.
Johnson, 28, has reportedly reached a two-year agreement to become a key cog in New York's backfield which includes power back Chris Ivory and scat back Bilal Powell. The Jets' newest edition eclipsed the 1,000 yard rushing plateau in each of his first six seasons in the league and in 2009 enjoyed a breakout year with 2,006 yards, 14 touchdowns and a whopping 5.6 yards per carry average.
While some NFL Scouts argue that the superstar's best days are behind him, splitting carries alongside Ivory and Powell could create the perfect scenario for Johnson in Rex Ryan's ground and pound scheme.
