Jets re-sign Leger Douzable

New York Jets defensive lineman Leger Douzable will remain with the team after making his official return with Gang Green.

When we talked about this exciting, young and new front seven on defense for the New York Jets, it's always about either Sheldon Richardson, Muhammad Wilkerson or Quinton Coples. But to be honest we can't forget about those other big pieces that have helped make them become a big monster as well.

One of those pieces coming back for the 2014 season is defensive end Leger Douzable who re-signed with the Jets and has felt comfortable playing with Rex Ryan, John Idzik and defensive lineman's coach Karl Dunbar who has done a great job last season.

"There were a few teams interested, but ultimately, me and my decided this was the best place for me." said Douzable. "The familiarity with the coaching staff and Rex made it an easier decision for me to come back."

It's always a pleasure to hear that both Rex and Idzik wanted Douzable to return when the 2013 season ended in Miami last year and he has been a reliable player to accompany the younger players that look to stop the run and any passes of the dink and dunk variety past the line of scrimmage.

But the wonder for him was that he got more playing time than what many experts expected last year.

"I don't think I got more (playing time) than I thought" noted Douzable. "Talking to (Dunbar) when they were thinking about bringing me in, they were looking for somebody that could play behind Sheldon (Richardson) and Muhammad (Wilkerson). That was a role I felt that I could play. I pride myself on being a versatile player."

As of right now it looks like Douzable has fit in perfectly with what Ryan wants to do with this defense for 2014 and to have a veteran like him to help out the young studs on the line of scrimmage, the hope to have a better record and make the playoffs since 2010. Recommended Stories
