It's been an interesting 2013 season for the New York Jets as their first half of the season was alternating wins and losses, until the start of the second half where they lost four of their last six games as well as three straight losses. But while the offense wasn't a solid and reliable side at times for Rex Ryan, his defense was huge in stopping the run as well as putting quarterbacks on the ground.
He along with Calvin Pace are the first two Jets to earn ten quarterback sacks each since the New York Sack Exchange that had Joe Klecko, Marty Lyons, Joe Gastineau and Abdul Salaam back in the 80's. So if you have earned ten sacks or more within a season, why hasn't Wilkerson been nominated to go to Hawaii?
I understand there are probably other defensive linemen who have done a great job this season of getting their teams into a playoff position, but what Wilkerson has done this season is not natural. He has become a monster in stopping the run and bringing the quarterback down to the ground.
Maybe it was his version of the hula dance this past November when he sacked Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints, which made the Pro Bowl committee not vote him into the annual season ending trip to the Hawaiian Islands. You would think that Wilkerson has been practicing his moves all season long for that.
Or maybe it's the NFL media trying to gain some form of revenge not to allow a single Jets defensive lineman to have some fun in the sun. If so then they have proven time after time that they think the Jets are a joke of a football team.
But the joke is on them when this defense gets better and better as the years progress and they will prove to the NFL media that you can't mess with an improving defense.
