Despite being in the middle of a heated AFC East rivalry, New York Jets outside linebacker Calvin Pace maintains respect for quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots offensive system.

Just a few hours from now, the New York Jets will look to hand the New England Patriots their second loss of the 2013 season. The first time the two teams met was Week 2 in what can be labeled as one of the most poorly played contests in recent memory. Both teams struggled to move the ball and Geno Smith was intercepted three times. The Patriots won the game by a score of 13-10.

Gang Green linebacker Calvin Pace knows that the secret to defeat the Patriots is to stop Tom Brady from entering his rhythm. The future Hall of Famer is lethal when allowed to sit in the pocket but can make mistakes when forced to throw on the run. Still, Pace understands that the Patriots are capable of putting up outstanding offensive numbers and are never to be taken lightly.

“I respect them. I respect what they do,” mentioned Pace about his AFC East rival. “They have a system and they do things well. You can respect the way that they win. It’s not pretty all the time. You look out there and they have a bunch of guys you don’t know, but they find a way.”

Pace went on to elaborate that the system the Patriots run works no matter what personnel they send onto the field. Where last season they had a slot receiver in Wes Welker, they now use Julian Edelman in the same role. Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson have now emerged as the deep threats, filling in the same role that Randy Moss played in his record -breaking 2007 campaign. Furthermore, the Jets now have to contend with Rob Gronkowski who is expected to play after being medically cleared.

“I think you just try to learn their concepts, their running game, the type of plays they want to run and the route combinations,” said Pace. “We have to affect Tom Brady. That's pretty much where it starts.”
