Report: Sanchez to have season-ending surgery

Mark Sanchez's 2013 season is over before it really began. Reports surfaced early Monday that the five-year veteran would forgo rehab and have his torn labrum surgically repaired; effectively sidelining him for up to six months.

As first reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on the torn labrum in his right shoulder that he suffered during a preseason contest against the New York Giants. Sanchez was slammed to the turf by then-Giants defensive lineman Marvin Austin. Rex Ryan inserted the veteran signal-caller into the game after rookie Geno Smith tossed three first half interceptions and looked well on his way to losing the starting quarterback battle.

Not only did Ryan's move backfire, but it has apparently cost Sanchez any chance of returning for the 2013 season.

In four games as the Jets' starter, the rookie Smith has turned the ball over a whopping 11 times, tied with New York Giants' quarterback Eli Manning for the league-high.

With Sanchez expected to miss four to six months, the former ‘Sanchize' may have played his last down in a Jets uniform.
