If you thought Mark Sanchez's days as the New York Jets starting quarterback were in the rear view mirror think again. Rex Ryan gave his hand-picked gunslinger the nod for Sunday in Buffalo

Round and round we go. The New York Jets quarterback carousel keeps on turning and where it stops nobody knows. In the most recent twist to Gang Green’s never-ending quarterback drama, Rex Ryan has renamed Mark Sanchez the starter after Greg McElroy was diagnosed with a concussion this week.

Jets fans who thought they saw Sanchez play his last game in Green and White will see No. 6 under center when New York clashes with Buffalo in its regular season finale.

The move comes as a shock to fans, the media and even the Jets head man.

"I was stunned by it," Ryan said of McElroy’s diagnosis. "Look, I admire Greg's courage and everything else. You have to be truthful — and I think that's the lesson learned here — with the medical staff. The fact that he really wanted to play, I understand the competitive side of Greg and all that, but the most important thing's the health of the players. Obviously, I just feel fortunate that something like this showed up without him going out there again and putting himself in harm's way."

Last week Tim Tebow expressed ‘disappointment’ with his role in the Wildcat offense along with admitting his frustration on being passed over for the starting signal-caller job in favor of McElroy. Now, Ryan opted to go back to Sanchez without again given Tebow any consideration to start on Sunday.

“That's what you'd expect from anybody," Ryan said. "Obviously, Tim would like a shot at it. But when you look at the situation the way it is, it's a short window, really, to get the prep time in and things, I just think it's best for our football team. It doesn't mean Tim won't play in this game, but I'm comfortable starting Mark."

Following a five turnover performance against the Tennessee Titans two weeks ago, Sanchez was benched and as the Jets’ playoff hopes flew out the window, it appeared No. 6 was on the fast track out of town. With McElroy experiencing concussion-like symptoms during workouts this week, Ryan once again turned o Sanchez to command New York’s huddle.

"When I looked at it, you only have two practices left, one's a walkthrough" today and Friday before Sunday's game at Ralph Wilson Stadium, Ryan said. "The fact that Mark had success earlier in the year against them, I thought this was the right decision."
