Ryan wants Tebow to get the ball out quicker

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan provided a few thoughts on Tim Tebow and what the Jets second-string quarterback needs to focus on during training camp.

It's a new year and a new Rex Ryan.

Gone are the Super Bowl guarantees.

Gone are the team captain nominations.

And gone is Ryan's larger-than-life waistline.

A trimmed down Ryan spoke to reporters about his new Wildcat quarterback and what he took from Tim Tebow's first few days of practice with Gang Green.

"The thing I really notice about Tim is a lot of the times he's looking to make that big throw down the field, said Ryan of Tebow's practice performance. "The thing with him, especially if he's going to be super dangerous, if he can get the ball out of his hands quicker, I think that's going to help him."

This offseason Tebow worked tirelessly on his throwing mechanics with former major league pitcher and current University of Southern California volunteer pitching coach Tom House.

New York's backup signal-caller made great strides to improve his accuracy and delivery in the pocket, yet according to Ryan, the former Heisman Trophy winner's biggest asset is his ability to run with the football.

"He's going to take off and run with it," noted Ryan. "He's trying to get the progression and throw the ball down the field, but I think when you snap it for real, you start seeing this guy run in those situations as well."

With Tebow-mania sweeping the Big Apple, even Ryan is surprised at the media attention the Jets have garnered throughout training camp.

" I don't know what he went through before or anything else, said Ryan of Tebow navigating the New York media market. "Certainly there is more media coverage for this football team than any other I have ever been (around)."
