With thousands of storylines surrounding the New York Jets offseason, GWR recounts the Top Ten most impactful headlines with training camp fast approaching.

1. Holdout Island

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis could stage his second holdout in three years. Uneasiness pervades Gang Green’s fanbase with the franchise’s most prized possession a potential no-show at the team’s upcoming training camp. While a contract standoff between Revis’ agents and New York’s front office is not imminent, the report creating quite a stir amongst Jets diehards.

2. New York’s Odd Couple

The biggest question on the mind of every NFL fan is can quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow coexist in New York? Early signs are encouraging with Tebow accepting Sanchez’s invite to his “Jets West Passing Camp” in Mission Viejo, CA. Whether their offseason camaraderie carries over into regular season still remains to be seen.

3. Jets jack-of-all-trades

Word is out that Tebow will wear many hats this upcoming season as the Jets plan on playing him as a tight end, running back, fullback, wide receiver and punt protector. The coaching staff eliminated any notion of a quarterback controversy instead opting to maximize Tebow’s talents in a variety of ways.

4.Readied Rookies

The Jets 2012 draft class is one of the strongest in recent memory with Quinton Coples, Stephen Hill, DeMario Davis and Terrance Ganaway all expected to see significant playing time this year. New York will give rookie safeties Antonio Allen and Josh Bush an opportunity to compete for a spot in the secondary rotation. Gang Green will lean heavily on this talented crop of rookie draft picks.

5. Sparano at the Helm

A sputtering Jets offense was the main culprit for a playoff-less season last year. Newly hired offensive coordinator Tony Sparano is offering a fresh new approach to Gang Green’s beleaguered offensive unit. Rex Ryan and Sparano share a vision for their offense where it can dominate the rushing battle and move the chains efficiently with chunk passing plays. Sanchez and Tebow are already buying into the system which looks to fully utilize each of their talents.

6. Landry’s Injury Status in Limbo

The Jets front office isn’t counting on safety LaRon Landry being ready for the season opener against the Buffalo Bills. Landry, whose Achilles tendon is still healing, is a Pro Bowl caliber talent when healthy. Gang Green rolled the dice on the injury plagued safety, hoping it pays off in the long run.

7. Hunter becomes the Hunted

Few players were under more scrutiny last season than Jets starting right tackle Wayne Hunter. Widely regarded as the weakest link on New York’s offensive line, Hunter was victimized by opposing pass rushers. The Jets signed veteran right tackle Stephon Heyer to provide a quality backup in case Hunter underperforms again this year.

8. Back to the Basics Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine told reporters this offseason that his unit will employ a base 4-3 defense to counter spread offensive attacks. In 2011, New York’s lack of speed at linebacker created unfavorable matchups with opponents’ slot receivers and tight ends. The Jets new look front will look to generate more sacks this upcoming season with four down-lineman.

9. Rex We Can

Gang Green’s outspoken leader shouldered the burden for the team’s shortcomings last year and is a adopting a more “hands on approach” this time around. The locker room has responded to Ryan’s increased involvement in practices and team meetings particularly the rookies and first-time Jets.

10. Need for Speed

New York’s offseason slogan “One Step Faster” is rallying players to go the extra mile in their conditioning programs so they can hit the ground running in 2012. The Jets addressed their lack of speed on the defensive side of the ball drafting defensive Coples and outside backer Davis, while inking safety Landry to a one-year contract.
